I’ll have you know I went to the store and bought a bunch of candy just to take a photo for this post. That’s how I roll.
Yesterday we tackled the worst candy. Most of us can agree that circus peanuts are the devil and that’s a good thing. We’re sort of on the same page here. But I thought we’d give our favorite candy a chance to shine as well. I’m all about the equal time.
For me, there is no question as to the best candy. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

I’m not a huge chocolate fan. I like it, but not enough to eat a whole bar of just chocolate. I need to have it mixed with something. It’s like drinking. Rum is ok, but I wouldn’t drink it straight. It needs a mixer. It needs Coke. So I think of peanut butter as chocolate’s mixer.
A more recent discovery is the Three Musketeers Dark Chocolate Mint bar. AISOT*, biting into one of those is a religious experience. It’s like God came in my mouth.
Yes, I am going to hell. But I’m taking you all with me.
Anyhow, here’s your chance to give props to your favorite candies. And anyone who says Mounds or Almond Joy will immediately be branded as the Anti Christ. Really, who the hell names their candy Mounds? Because all I can think of is, well…..sex. And I don’t want to confuse sex with coconuts. Although once I wore a coconut bra during a bachelorette party. While singing Sister Christian. But still, that has nothing to do with coconut covered candy.
Off topic again. Let’s stick to favorite candy.
*As I Said On Twitter (stolen from Lileks)
All time favorite? Godiva Truffles.
Favorite that I can afford on a regular basis? Peanut butter M&Ms
Bestest candy ever…
Fresh Valentine hearts
Spree (not the abominable chewy kind)
Nerds (candy-coated sugar clumps!)
Bottle Caps
Belgian chocolate (also their beer, waffles, and fries)
OK, so you love Reese’s… but which “kind” do you prefer?
The wider, shorter cups? Or the Halloween style, taller but thinner cups? Just curious…
For the record, I prefer the tall, thinner ones. Most people probably don’t care either way…
I wholeheartedly agree about Reese's Peanut Butter cups. I like the large ones because they have more peanut butter!
I also adore Godiva truffles, Godiva caramels, and Godiva just-about-anything.
For other more down-to-earth candies, I like jelly beans! yes!, Nestle's crunch bars, Hershey chocolate bars, M&Ms (very good with coffee!), candy corn, Sweetarts, caramel apples, caramel, butterscotch candies.

I love Reese’s, too, but my all time favorite is Snickers and Skittles. Not together, of course.
Original Spree! They rock my sweet nation.
I hate it when you force me to reveal the “me too” toady that I am, but Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are my favorite candy.
I do like Lindor Balls a helluva lot, though.
Those Lindor truffles RULE.
So do old school Sprees, and sour apple caramel lollipops.
Mikey, my favorite Reese’s are the inside out ones, but they are hard to find, so by default I go with the regular Reese’s. I don’t like the white chocolate ones at ALL. And some days those big cups are just what I need.
For me: good dark chocolate – just a little bit at a time. Most days I’d rather go whole hog and eat dessert (cannoli!) rather than eat candy.
Boyd says: slightly warm Jr. Mints – not heated, but not cold either. I can vouch for him–he’s eaten millions of these in the 18 years I’ve known him.
My mom always bought big Reeses cups to give away at Halloween and then ate almost all of them while my dad took me trick-or-treating. I always wondered at the fact that 4 or 5 big bags of Reeses could disappear from a house on a dead end street in a town of 500 people. Who knew?
Jesus Christ on a peanut butter cup. MOUNDS? ALMOND JOY?
I thought we could share the Reese's Peanut Butter cup All-Time Best Candy-that it would carry us through these troubling candy times.
Alas, with this latest bit of treason, I'm going to have to take a break.
M&Ms are the devil simply because they're so fantastic.
Reese's anything is indeed the end-all, be-all of candy goodness. I especially love the big fatties they put out at the holidays. Mmmm more peanut butter.
Snickers-because I like eating them layer for layer and caramel is awesome.
Cadbury Caramel Eggs (not the too-realistic Creme eggs)-because I love caramel so much, I'm willing to get my day's worth of caloric intake in one or two bites. Oh, and it's care-a-MEL, in case you pronounce it incorrectly.
And now, I'm on a BREAK.
In no particular order:
Snickers
Cadbury Fruit and Nut Bar, the Dark Chocolate Version if I can find it.
Cadbury Caramel Eggs (The creme eggs are just wrong)
A good Belgium Truffle
Werther’s caramels.
An ocaissional Skittle.
Fresh Turkish Delight. Stores who sell last year’s tins should be burned to the ground.
I can’t remember what they’re called, I haven’t seen one in forever, it was a cup of caramel with a hazelnut in the middle, topped with a dollop of dark chocolate. Whatever those were, I liked them a LOT.
Hot Tamales.
If we’re talking chocolate, I prefer the big holiday Reese’s too. The more peanut butter the better.
Also, Almond Roca.
Rolos and Caramellos have been favorite of mine, but they’re not as easy to find in this area for some reason.
(“I was right in the middle of a Caramello when I found gold!!”)
Found your blog through Twitter…gummy bears are my all time faves… Although admittedly I am a candy slut… I’ll do ’em all….even circus peanuts!
Damn, that Three Musketeers thing sounds GOOD.
I love the big hunk of good-quality chocolate. Those things – I think Godiva makes them – that layer chocolate with something (like peanut butter or mint) are simple and perfect, too. Oh God, I need some chocolate.
This is a tough one.
Good call on the peanut butter cups, though I wouldn’t put it as my favorite. I do love a good hunk of high quality dark chocolate, though. I have no problem eating it straight. Is that elitist? I’m very sensitive to being called elitist–god forbid.
Cadbury Creme Eggs are fucking wonderful. I know it’s sickeningly heavy on the sugar, but I can’t turn them down. Maybe it wouldn’t last if I had access to them all year.
Andes mints. Lindor truffles, as mentioned. The key with those is to put them in your pocket–as long as you don’t have on jeans, you don’t want to crush the damn thing–and let your body heat melt the inner chocolate truffle stuff–whatever the fuck it is–and then when you bite into it, you realize that when God comes in your mouth, it’s motherfucking chocolate. And then you realize why so many people are obsessed with God.
Also, the mint M&Ms that come out at Christmas. I can eat a pounder bag of those things without breaking a sweat.
I think it's time I try one of those mint Three Musketeers. I always did love the regular ones.
How I’ve missed you, Joel. You make me smile 🙂
A more recent discovery is the Three Musketeers Dark Chocolate Mint bar. AISOT*, biting into one of those is a religious experience. It’s like God came in my mouth.
Ugh, that’s not for me then. I hate salty candy.
(Just wanted to make sure I go to hell…)
I prematurely shot my favorites wad in the last thread…except these babies.
You’ll see God, really.
Holy crap, those cherries look incredible.
I’m all about the Reese’s Eggs you get around Easter time. Then Nerds, Skittles and Heath bars here
Two favorites:
1. Whatchamacallit bars. Stupid name for a really great candy bar. Lots of crisp, almost but not quite peanut butter, caramel, and chocolate. Heaven.
2. Sour Skittles. Awesome good. I like regular Skittles, but I LOVE the sour ones.
